I am a natural nurturing person. I I decided at a very young age that I wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. I had a grandmother that suffered from Alzheimer's disease for 13 years. Majority of the time that she was sick I cared for her. I always knew I needed to get into the health field because I saw how important it is to have a support system. When you have someone in your family who can no longer take care of themselves it seems to have a ripple effect with everyone surrounding them. At some point we could no longer take care of my grandmother in the house so we had to hire a home health aide and in doing so I really grew to appreciate the nature of the job. You become an extended family member you grow great bonds with your clients or patients and their familes. I love being an aide.

I became a caregiver after I helped my mom take care of my grandmother while working overnight with a private client(6yrs). I then I took care of my mom when she was diagnose with cancer years later(2yrs) while working as a preschool teacher. I never felt like it was a job, I just enjoyed being there when they needed me the most and seeing a smile on their faces, and being a companion. My personality and or expertise for being a great caregiver is being personable, caring, dependable, trustworthy, compassionate and most of all being able to communicate with everyone involved.
