I am married, with 5 grown children and 6 grandchildren, and am fortunate enough to still have both my parents! My specialties are Cancer Care, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation, Post-Acute, Memory Care, and Hospice Care. I have an innate ability to anticipate the needs of my client, both emotionally and physically. I am open and approachable, and am able to comfortably converse with my client based on their interests and experiences. I'm known for giving great baths and showers and I'm nurse delegation certified, so I can assist with catheters, insulin, wound care and more. I have a clean, dependable car and insurance. My name is Nikki. I have been a certified nursing assistant since 2014, but have been taking care of people since 2000. What attracted me to become a caregiver was taking care of my mother for so long. My mother passed in 2006 and from then on I've been a caregiver. I am a caregiver at night for a client I have had since July 8th of 2015. I am the lead at my job, I handle the medications, doctors apts, payroll, firing, hiring and basically anything you can think of. My job isn't a job it's my life, my career. I have helped take care of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, quadriplegic, cancer, amputations, inserting catheters, condom catheters, pubic catheters, colostomy bags you name it I have done it. What I truly enjoy most about being a caregiver is leaving the clients house knowing that the little time you get to spend with them made a difference. Getting to hear the story's of their life is the most memorable. To hear a client tell you that they love you and they can't wait for you to come back .... Those are the moments that make my career the greatest career in the world.

Some residents at the Assisted Living Community call me Christmas, saying it's close to Carol , my nickname. They said it fits my personality. Willing to give love (as the song goes... on Christmas Day!), happy, funny, full of joy! I have been taking care of my Father who suffered from stroke for 10 years back in the Philippines, being one of his caregivers. I was also his Physical Therapist. We moved here in the US 5 years ago, and I have worked as a caregiver , then transitioned to work in the Med Room as a Medication Technician at Maple Glen Assisted Living in Shelton, WA. I consider it a calling given the opportunity to work there. I am a people person and loves taking care of elderly. I treat them as family and I enjoy listening to their stories, and attending to their needs. Having a Physical Therapy background, and with experience in home health, clinical, and hospital settings, I could offer different types of assistance based on the needs. I consider my time at Maple Glen as one of my career achievements. I love all of the residents and I became The Employee of the Month in less than a year. Being a caregiver is a calling for me. A few things about me that makes me an amazing caregiver is that not only do I believe to still give them there Independence in a safe manor but I also care deeply from my heart and try my best to always get all there needs complete. One thing that made me interested in being a caregiver was when I was 10 I used to go to my great grandpas retirement home and help out with everyone. I enjoyed it so much, seeing there faces when I would help with something or just sit and listen made me feel like I won a million dollars. When I was 13 years old my grandparents were bed bound. I went to go visit them, got to meet with their in home caregiver. Seeing the difference she was making in their lives everyday just by showing up and interacting with them made them the happiest ever. I realized that i wanted to be that person. I want to be the person they look forward to seeing everyday when they don't have anything to look forward to. I want to be the person that helps them, not because it's my job but because getting to improve their moods and just help out in any way i can is one of the most rewarding things i can do to help other people. I believe that i would be best for this job because i have the drive to help others and make their days better, and i love getting to spend time with residents and just learn about them, hear about their stories and experiences they have had, and just spend time with them and try to make their day the greatest they can be. I think the personal achievement i am most proud of is when i first started working at puget sound, i didn't really know any of the residents yet and i was job shadowing. I walked into a room to check on them and one of the residents looked at me and looked very sad. I walked over to her and gave her a hug and told her i was glad to see her and asked how her day was. She looked at me and said it wasn't very good but it was getting better now, and i asked her why. She said "well no one has talked to me today and you were the first person to go out of your way just to talk to me and see how i was, not because you have to but because you wanted to. you're gonna be amazing at this job" and that hit me right in my heart and made me realize that how you act and the way you present yourself completely determines the interaction you have with these residents, and me going in there not even knowing how to do my job and just making her day that much better without even trying was my biggest accomplishment working with residents.
