I am a very compassionate and patient caregiver with 24 years of experience helping to care for individuals with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. I began providing care when a close friend of mine needed help caring for her sick mother. I worked with this sweet lady for seven and a half years in which I refined my caregiving skills. Hello My name is Doretta Harden I'm a proud mama of 2 sons age 11 and 13. I'm passionate about understanding the importance in raising not just sons but men of community and they will be husbands one day. For 15 years with out hesitation I knew the importance of making sure my mother had the proper care so I became her caregiver. In doing so I did not know that taking care of my mother would give me purpose, meaning and add value to my life while I was giving her quality of life until I watched her take her very last breath. During those 15 years I was taught by her physical therapist the proper way of transporting her in and out of bed and to and from my vehicle. I would encourage her every day to take a few steps with her walker. I would transport her to all her doctors appointments every three months making sure I was her voice when it became difficult for her to answer questions. I became her power of attorney to I could sign her name when she could no longer do so. I stayed on top of reminding her of her medication while staying in constant communication with her nurse and her health Plan. I helped with bathing, Assisting two and from the bathroom when she could to make sure she was clean, and every evening helping her have put on her adult diaper and every morning changing her depends also making sure that if there were any accidents in the night making sure her bed stayed clean so she did not develop any sores and if so I made sure she got the proper aid to heal her skin. I always made sure her skin stayed hydrated leaving her feeling good and comfortable. I learned in through caregiving the most important job was companionship being by her side every day getting her to activities to buying her favorite snacks, watching her favorite shows whatever was needed to keep my mother in my life. That bond was be companionship for that Im honored that I was able to care for my mother because I was able to be by her side for the last years of her life.

I have over ten years of experience in caregiving, I'm also a registered RBT I hold my CPR and first aide license. I'm also fully vaccinated and I have a lot of skills in the medical field.

I'm a great caregiver because I love my job and helping people. I was attracted to being a caretaker after taking care of my mother for ten years who had cancer. My favorite part of my job is being a companion. I have often felt like a family member to my clients. A personal achievement that I am always proud of is when my client improves because of my positive attitude and the exercises we do or day trips. I also make an excellent cup of tea.

Since I was a young child I was raised around my elderly family and I loved to help them walk or just do fun things with them. I babysat at the age 9, I just always had that trait in me to take care of others. I took care of my aunt at the age of 17 I had never had training to do any kind of caregiving work but I learned as I went along. For 9 months I cooked for her, I cleaned her wound, drained the bags that were in her incisions, med reminded, bathed her in bed, washed her hair in bed, I changed her in her bed, cut her diabetic toenails and assisted her to and from dr appointments. My aunt suffered from hepatitis C and diabetes. That's how my journey of becoming a caregiver began.
