I became a caregiver because I needed hours to apply for physician assistant school but I came to love the job. I love being a caregiver now because of the joy I get when I help someone become more comfortable and put a smile on their face. I love helping people because I care and have a compassionate heart for others. I worked in a dementia unit at Heritage community of Kalamazoo for two years we had a resident who would only allow me to provide care for her because of the way I approached. Being a caregiver is all about being that person someone can trust with things they can't do for themselve anymore. I am 27 years old and I live in Portage, MI, I have my own car, don't smoke, hard working, trustworthy, attentive, caring and patient. I hope to become a nurse soon so I can be a great caregiver to many more.

I love being an in home caregiver because I enjoy being able to give people the one on one attention they deserve. I enjoy learning the little things about a person that can give them a good day (such as wearing scrubs with pictures of cats on it for the person that loves cats). Little things like that can make a difference in being able to get a dementia patient to eat. I am also experienced in dealing with various mental health issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and schizophrenia. I'm never judgemental and strongly believe in validation therapy.
I'm a meticulous compassionate person who loves to care for people. I have a desire to help others, especially in the medical field and want to make the world a better place for those that need help. I'm thankful that I've been able to help both my parents in their needs for recovery and daily living. I know that as my mother's illness progresses her care will become more time consuming, but as of now, I want to keep my skills up by helping others.
I am a someone who enjoys helping others but not over any personal expenses. I have to have time for my family and my home as well. I'm a good cook, I clean well, and I try to be very understanding and patient with anyone's needs. I have a ton of experience behind the work scene but only have been officially working for about 1yr with my current agency and started with my second just recently. (I worked with 2 other agencies short term due to lack of clientele and low pay). I am certified CPR as well. Anything within a 30 to maybe 45min drive is reasonable, but please be considerate about weather conditions in the winter!
