I am a married mother of two, a 7 year old daughter & a 4 year old son. I went to college and received my Associates Degree in Nursing graduating in 2007. I have always been a very outgoing, compassionate natural nurturer. I have taken care of many family members while recovering from surgery, stroke, heart attack, cancer and even those that were terminally ill and cared for them up until their passing. I also worked in a nursing home for several months while attending college, the hours did not work with my schedule at the time, so I found a retail banking job while in school. I am currently not in the medical field and changed my career in 2008, and have been with the same employer since. I enjoy taking care of others and learning from someone else. While I worked in the nursing home, I became close with several of the residents and their families because I genuinely cared for them. I would often go by when it wasn't my shift and even after I had left the nursing home for employment. Although I get to do plenty of caregiving at home with my children, I miss working with the elderly and learning so much about our history and how things used to be. I am looking to do something I love while earning extra income for my family. I am available on Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7 or during the day on Saturday & Sunday.
I am a great caregiver because I take pride in ny work. I treat my clients as if they are my own when providing care and treatment. I chose to become a caregiver because I have a passion and desire to help and give back to others. Some of my personality traits that make me a great worker are having a lot of patience, knowing how to be kind and gentle, and knowing how to enpathize with my clients throughout their disease process. When providing care, I don't look at it as job. I actually enjoy my field of work and aim to better the quality of life. While working on my Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Secondary Education at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, my paternal grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Having been a certified home health aide (while my children were young), I was the natural choice to care for my grandmother. While caring for her, I studied everything I could find on dementia and attended care conferences and symposiums in the tri-state area to learn as much as I could about the disease process and adaptations for care. When she passed away in 2005, I began looking for career options working with this very special population. I have been an Assisted Living dementia programmer/trainer/support group facilitator ever since. I have also had extensive experience with hospice, MS, dementia, and paraplegic care through Bayada Nurses, Inc. in Toms River, NJ. I have been a resident of Danville, VA for 4 years now; transferring to a sister building of the same assisted living facility that I worked for in NJ. In October 2014 I completed my Bachelors Degree in Human Services and Gerontology, summa cum laude, from Kaplan University. My goal is to become a fulltime dementia programming teacher; training healthcare providers, community service workers, lawyers, doctors, and emergency care providers.
