For me, being a caregiver isn't just a career. It's my calling in life. I feel as though it's what I was put here to do. My very first job at age 18 was as a caregiver for a lady with MS. I cared for her as a live in for nearly three years with one day off weekly. I then moved to direct care for disabled individuals and have accumulated several years experience. I am certified in first aid/ CPR, medication administration, insulin trained, and have a wide path of experience to fall back on. I was also caregiver for my mother for five years until she passed from ALZ. I am currently attending college studying Human and Social Services to better provide for those I work with and for. I believe that being a caregiver requires a special individual, just as special as those I care for. I have always felt that the individuals I have met and worked with have each been a blessing in their own way and I am the lucky one for having them in my heart and life. I view my clients as family, nothing less. I am dedicated, sincere, patient, full of good humor, not easily upset, and my greatest joy is making others happy. That's the biggest benefit of all. When I was a stay at home mom, my mother became seriously ill, it was then when I decided to become a Certified Nurse's Aide. My husband and I moved in with my parents so I could give around the clock care for my mother until she passed in '07. I then worked in a Hospital for only a few months and decided that kind of enviornment just wasn't for me. Since then I have been working in Nurseing Homes and love the feeling of family and friends, there is a feeling of closeness, respect, and love I develope for my patient/resident that I personally cherish, and helping others in a loveing and careing way.
