I, Shonita Badillo became a caregiver because I love working with the elderly and, sick. Caregiving has always been my passion because, when I was a teenager I cared for my grandmother. I enjoy being a caregiver because, it gives me joy to see a smile on my clients face, and, also I feel I can bring a lot to their life such as understanding patience and, compassion. I am very positive and happy at all times. I smile and laugh at lot and it is very uplifting to my patients. My mother passed away from cancer in 2002. I cared for her until she went to heaven. I became a professional caregiver after taking care of my mom for 10 years before she passed away and have been in the non medical home health industry for over 15 years. I have experience with hospice patients, colostomy patients, Alzheimer's and dementia, stroke patients, bed bound patients, those with feeding tubes and catheters, Parkinson's disease to name a few. One family even told me that had I not been their loved one's caregiver he would not have lived to see his birthday! He was a 90 year old hospice patient! What I like best about being a caregiver is providing companionship to the elderly and giving them something to smile about and want to continue living!

I have been in healthcare some way, shape, or form since I was 15. I started off in a nursing home in the kitchen, went to work at a group home for developmentally challenged individuals, then I moved to a memory care unit while I resided in Florida, and now I work in emergency services as a dispatcher.
