I have been a caretaker most of my adult life. I took care of my mother for several years while she was ill with Lupus and worked in several nursing homes, assisted living and independent living facilities. I understand the worry of having someone to assist and keep your love one company and ensuring that they are well "looked" after while you are away. I have been a certified nurse's assistant and activty director for both nursing homes and assisted living facilities and I understand the importance of keeping people activite and happy. I just recently retired from Job Corps after working there 20+ years taking care of at risk youth in a residential setting. As an individual who spent her early years in a civil war, it was seriously sad to see people who were affected badly and had no one to care for them. Due to my passion for humanity, I found myself voluntarily helping victims in anyway I could as encountered them. After my transition to the US due to the war, I knew that caregiving was a part of me and decided to spent my career life doing that. As a care giver, it gives me nothing less that joy and excitement to know that I can be there for an individual during their most critical time of need and that I can also be a part of the team who nurture them back to recovery/health.
