Caregiving is a career I always wanted to do. I got my first CNA license in 1978, I spent 5 years working at In home care. I than began a career as a Hair Stylist, than becoming an Instructor in Cosmatology. Making people feel needed and helping them to be able to stay in their own home, is what I truly enjoy. I have experience caring for Dementia, Disabled, Developmently Challenged and Hospice clients. I have been with with Care Link 5 years, and with another private agency for 11 years. I started of in the caregiving field with taking care of my grandfather. In the process I got to learn a lot and I did enjoy doing it. I treat every client like my own family with love and compassion. Every client had different needs, so I get to understand the client first and foremost. I mostly enjoy the learning process in caregiving, no matter how long one has been a caregiver, we get to learn new things every time. I once had a client who had dementia (late stage), who did not want to go to bed (it was late at night). One thing that the client enjoyed was watching animal documentaries . I showed the client pictures of different animals that I had taken when I went to Kenya and the client calmed down and I was able to redirect the client to bed. My patience with the client helped me assure the client that I was on her side. This scenario really made me proud of the caregiver that I'm becoming. I love what I do.

What a great caregiver means to me is to be able to show empathy and compassion toward the clients and families that I work with. By taking the time to fully understand my patient's needs and giving them the patience to work through their rehabilitation at their own pace, I show them that I care about them and that I want to do what I can to help them. I become a caregiver because I enjoy working with people. I love helping the individuals and their families to create the tailored care that is needed. I also enjoy working with the elderly in overcoming the difficulties associated with their health issues and helping them maintain their highest level of Activities Daily Living. The most satisfying part about being a caregiver is knowing that my clients and I foster a bond that makes me feel like a part of their family. In addition, the trust that my client's family put in me to ensure that their love ones are safe and taken care of is quite rewarding. I know how it helps the family feel at ease. One of my personally favorite achievements I'm proud of was helping one of my post-surgery clients at home with PT and OT; and enabling her to walk with a cane again instead of being restricted to a wheelchair.
