I am a Certified Home Health Aide and have enjoyed more than 20 years of experience in providing quality care for elderly adults. My first patient was my father. When he passed away, I decided to continue in this line of work as I found that I really enjoy providing care to the elderly. Attending to the particular needs of each patient and fulfilling the desires of my clients are what matter most to me as a Home Health Aide. I love what I do, and I am committed to always providing the best care possible to each patient. When I worked at an ALF, I had a client who was a millionaire and company owner prior to becoming ill with dementia. He and I got along very well and he made it very clear that I was his favorite. One time the other caregivers were trying to persuade him to take a shower which he refused to do. I had told him before that Saturday was the day for him to take a shower. After taking him for a walk and calming him down, we walked to the bathroom where I had laid out his clothes. I asked him if he knew that it was Saturday, the day he always takes a shower. He immediately complied without resistance. He told me to leave one day and that he didn't need me anymore. So I gathered my things and left the room. After a short while he asked where I was. The attendant said I had left. He asked for me to come back. When I returned he was sitting on the bed but stood up and gave me a hug. He apologized for telling me to leave. He was so dear. I often had to stay even several extra hours after my shift ended because the next caregiver did not show up on time.
