All jobs are hard, but only few offer immediate satisfaction of seeing a smile on someone's face. What separates me from average caregivers are traits like empathy, compassion, patience, reliability, trustworthiness and the flexibility to move around my patient's schedule. As a caregiver, I take great pride in my duties to be able to provide companionship, give reminders for medication, assist with personal care, perform light chores and encourage my patients to participate in stimulating activities. I especially take my duties to provide companionship and encouraging participation in stimulating activities very seriously because I realized that many patients feel isolated or lonely in the comfort of their own home, therefore, connecting and chatting about common interests makes a big difference in a patient's overall health and well-being no matter how short or long my time is with a patient. I take pride in knowing that I am assisting to improve my patient's quality of life and carrying that knowledge with me, makes the job just that much more worth it.

* The Anytown program is a 5-day, 4-night residential conference for teens that teaches them how to discuss and talk about difficult topics with people who may not look like them. * As a staff / Intern, collaboration with diverse groups of people was necessary to create interactive workshops that teach and demonstrate to the teens the concepts of "isms" and the ways these concepts create and reinforce discrimination. * The ability to learn quickly and communicate effectively became useful in facilitating dialogue that builds emotional intelligence and empathy amongst the diverse group of teens.
