The most important thing to me as a caregiver is to allow the patient a grace and respect in their final stage of life. Empathy is important, and I enjoy cultivating closer bonds by sharing in the happiness or the sadness of the patients I care for. I am always patient because I understand that slowing down is a process of aging. It's important to allow my patients to go at their own pace. I am dependable, honest, and compassionate. I am always available to listen. When possible, I truly enjoy helping the patient to reflect on some of their best memories and relate a few of my own. I feel a responsibility to help patients maintain decency and help them feel like they are still part of the decisions in their day. As an in-home health aid in the U.S., I was able to manage complicated co-morbibities in a way that still allowed for kindness. I volunteered in nursing homes for 8 years previous to my employment, and am applying for CNA in the state of Florida. My time with my most recent family has come to an end. I assisted in ADL or daily living activities, spent time reading to the patient, took him for ice cream treats, ate lunch together, and enjoyed his favorite Western movies. Additionally, I orchestrated resources for the family including enrichment activities and when it was time, respite and hospice care, as well as helping manage the process for final arrangements. These choices are never easy for the family to make, and together we weighed the pros and cons of each decision. I can be as little or as much involved in these processes as the family deems appropriate. My role is support, symptom management, and helping your loved one manage a complicated stage of life as gracefully as possible.
