I have had the personal experience in caring of two special people in my life that sadly had cancer. It was a great challenge that made me more compassionate, detailed oriented, understanding to what a person was feeling and it made me more determined to making them as comfortable, stressless, healthy feeling and pain free as I could possibly do for them. What I enjoyed while I cared for these loving people was seeing their eyes light up and the smile on their face because they knew I was there for them. My personal achievement is if it hadn't been for them I would not be the person I am today a strong, determined, caring individual that has their best interest in my heart. I have reliable transportation, knowledgeable in cleaning, disinfecting, medication reminding, companionship, grocery or medical pickup, driving to appts. At this time I was a caregiver to a man that was given 2 years to live. At this time I was also working at a Staples Warehouse where I was blessed with a boss that worked with my schedule. I would go in at 3 or 4 am get out at noon get home and get my husband's chemo hooked up to him, bathe him, moisturizing his skin several times a day, feed him his meds., prepare meals, take him to the hospital for another kind of chemo every other day, read to him and just be with him until the end. He showed me what courageous and the will to live was all about. And during the 14 months that he fought he also never lost his humor. So what I achieved from this loss was a strength to help others from him. So I enjoy trying to help others to deal with their health and to know that they are not alone. I also achieved learning how to access a port, prepare chemo and hook it up, the importance of cleanliness, giving meds at the same time everyday, diet and exercise.
