About Victor

I want to start off by saying I am not certified or have a degree on care giving/therapies. My first experience with care giving came when I actually had to drop out of college to come home and take care of my grandfather who was hit by a car. I was studying the subject in school so it was sort of fitting. I'm most proud of having seriously impacted two lives through care giving and being told "you have made my life better" and "your help is better than anybody's I've gotten who had a degree in this sort of thing". I'm extremely active and can physically handle anything I'm tasked with. I'm very intelligent and do not pretend to know more than I actually do. What I'm best at is relating to people on a personal level and getting a true understanding of what's going on mentally/emotionally in an authentic way. Faking emotions or faking that I care is exhausting in my opinion, so I would not offer this service unless I really cared about helping the individual. What attracts me to being a caregiver is of course the personal satisfaction of doing something good, but also I just believe in helping when you have the ability to. If I can offer something that somebody desperately needs, why wouldn't I help?

Physical Therapist

The job description says physical therapist because it is the closest description I can give per what my duties were. However I want to express I am not a licensed physical therapist. I was working in the physical fitness industry and a young lady (upper 20s) with a milder case of Cerebral Palsy came in looking for help. I had studied recreational therapy and offered my assistance. She had troubles with walking, coordination, balance, and overall strength. I treated her like any other person coming in to get in shape but directed her "workout regimen" towards how she wanted to improve her everyday life and make day to day activities as easy as possible. Initially, she was not able to squat in her own to sit down in a chair, confidently walk long distances without assistance/ fear of falling, or even do a sit up. After a few weeks of training she was using weights that her balance issues were previously preventing her from doing, she could do 25+ sit-ups without an extended break, and walked over a quarter mile which is more than double what she started with before training with me. I do not have a degree or certification in this sort of thing. I just used the knowledge that I have of the human body, her condition, and matched it with what she was seeking to accomplish when she walked in the door.

Home Health Aide

75 year old man recovering from being in a coma. Upon being released from the hospital he was not able to walk, shower, shave, use the restroom alone, or even sit up in bed. I was present in the hospital during initial therapies and was taught to perform them once he was released to go home. With a background in studying recreational therapy I was able to easily understand what he needed and how to adjust to his needs and physical limitations as time went on. This was my grandfather so I was living in his home during this period. My duties included: showering, shaving, assisting in wiping and using the bathroom, feeding, moving him from room to room, giving insulin and medications, performing physical therapy, mentally stimulating him and ensuring a positive environment as much as possible, and just being a good person to have as company. He eventually fully recovered and is able to walk and perform everything he needs to daily without limitation. This gave me experience with everything above as well as patience with dementia, diabetics, and elderly that lack motivation to improve their current life/situation.
