My passion for elderly care has greatly evolved over two years as a nurse's aide working for Comfort Keepers In-Home Senior Care and HCR Manorcare Long-Term & Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) & Rehab. Not only have I cared for the elderly, I have also cared for younger patients in the ages of 30's & 40's. This field of work has left me with a desire to provide families with the help for their elderly parents & relatives to meet their personal needs. Respect, trust & honesty are essential in every patient's care, and I focus on building those characteristics with every patient. I perform both indirect care and direct care skills for each patient. Indirect care skills include washing my hands, proper greetings, thoroughly explaining procedures, provide privacy to patients before beginning a task, keeping patients safe & comfortable, maintaining patients' rights, reporting patients' conditions & changes, and maintaining & replenishing supplies, light housekeeping, and transportation. Direct care skills include taking vital signs, giving showers & bed baths, bedpan care, perineal care, mouth care, nail care, wound dressings, performing ostomy bag care, measuring & recording urinary bag output, applying TED hose, adjusting patient in bed, ambulation, transferring with mechanical lift, & passive range of motion exercises. I am also familiar with collecting urine & stool specimens and performing isolation procedures (putting on & properly removing disposable gown, gloves, goggles, & a mask). I completed Patient Care Technician certification from Orlando Vo-Tech in 2013. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences from UCF in 2012 and I am pursuing my Master's Degree. I appreciate the opportunity to know clients & their families and become a vital part of their lives. The smile on their faces is overpowering and I feel that I have done my job right.
