About Kiersten

Hey! My name is Kiersten. Im 30 years old. I have about 6 years of experience working with disabled/elderly patients. Im certified in CPR and First aid. I have experience driving handicapped vehicles, My first job in this field was taking care of my grandmother. I helped her for the last 3 years she was alive. When i first started helping her out she fell and broke her hip and she never really fully recovered from that. She went on to have 2-3 strokes. She had dementia, and just wasnt the wonderful loving woman she once was. By the end of it all she couldnt walk at all. I would have to wheel her to the bathroom and get her on and off of the toilet. Pick her up and sit her in her favorite chair, and feed her. It was very very hard. Since then, ive worked with a few families and clients with spina bifida, parkinsons, MS, says this has to be less than 200 characters and thats just not possible. if you have any questions please feel free to send me a message!

Experience & Education

Live-in "personal assistant" for a 93 year old lady.

May 2018 - Jul 2018
Private Care
(she didnt like caretaker but she didnt mind having a personal assistant! Lol) She needed help with basically all of her everyday tasks. I cooked, cleaned, got her to the bathroom, helped her get dressed, made sure she got her meds, and we just hung out alot. She was SUPER cool. I had to quit there because i was moving :( she was a major fall risk and thats why they needed a live-in.

"helper"

Feb 2017 - Apr 2018
Private Care
Im not sure the exact dates but ive worked for this family twice. Dawn has Spina Bifida. She needed help getting up in the morning(she had a lift that i would use to get her into and out of her wheelchair), getting dressed, reminding her about her meds, Bathing, she had a Urostomy bag so i would clean that out for her as well. I cooked and helped her with basically everything she needed because she was basically paralyzed. She also had 5 pets that i helped out with. And i used to drive their handicapped vehicle so i also have experience with that.

Caretaker

Apr 2013 - May 2016
Grandmother's
My Grandmother was the first person i ever took care of. Thats what pretty much threw me onto this career path. I took care of her for the last 3 years she was alive. After i first moved in with her (she was falling alot) she fell and broke her hip maybe 3 days after i first got there. After that she never really fully recovered. She went on to have a few strokes (doing all this for her, i learned ALOT about alot and what to look out for about alot of things) By the end of it, i had to fully lift her up and put her into her favorite chair. i cooked and cleaned and did pretty much everything that had to be done. She passed away the day before Mothers Day 2016 in her own home. There was no way i was letting her go out in some nursing home with people that barely care. Im now certified in CPR and first aid as well.
