Getting my CNA certificate I had to volunteer at a nursing home for about 2 weeks. After the first day I pretty much had to do everything on my own such as changing , feeding , and bathing the residents. I also helped with ADLs. I helped comb residents hair. I did bed baths. I got to know some of the residents there ,and had great conversations with them. I changed beds and helped get residents out of bed. I changed briefs and made sure certain people got certain foods depending on their condition.

I'm a great caregiver cause I enjoy what I do so it doesn't seem like work. Helping someone in need and making them laugh are smile is a good thing. Making what seems like a hard task a better one example putting on ones shoe when they are unable to do for themselves. I became a caregiver cause when my grandmother was sick and dying I help with her care alone with my mom and Aunts and I knew that that's what I wanted to do. Keeping my grandmother home was the best thing we could ever had done. My last client was a wonderful person, we became friends and not only did she need me I also needed her I'm so proud to say I was with her until the end.

Hi im valene Brooks and im from a small town in mississippi. When i was thirteen yrs old my granny moved in with us or should i say my bedroom, lol. I was so angry when that happened! My granny stayed in my clothes,toys,just everything. I would wake up every morning to my granny with my favorite jordan sweat suit on and my matchn air jordan shoes, lol. How did she know dat it matched idk. I was so tickled. When i would come home from school i would always have to be the one to take care of her. So i asked my mom one day why i had to do it everyday? My mom said cause your the only one she will cooperate with! Lol. Not that i mind doing it i just didnt want her waiting all day. So saying that i knew this was my calling. I have been taking care of the elderly since i was thirteen. I love my job. Its not about the money! I just get a joy out of doing wat i do. O and not to toot my own horn but i great at what i do!
