I became a caregiver when my mother-in-law got sick, she had diabetes type 2 and kidney failure she passed away a few years later then I became the caregiver for my husband which passed away 7 years ago. It was then I realized that I had a gift for taking care of people, so I became a caregiver. My first patient had Alzheimer's and was a diabetic with heart problems and also blind but with him I was able to do something that really made a difference for me I was able to talk to him about what he loved to do when he was younger we made a bucket list so we could pick out things that were doable for him he loved to go to the beach he loves swimming even though he could not swim we did go to the beach and he was able to wet his feet in the water and that made my day to see a smile in his face and he has never forgotten that even though he passed away several years ago I still remember how happy he was that moment so that tells you a little bit of why I became a caregiver I want to be able to do things that they could be able to remember even when things get tough give them something to smile about

What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is that I enjoy helping people. I enjoy sitting and listening to people who enjoy sharing their stories with me when they were younger, or just talking about life in general. As a child I always knew that helping people was what God created me to do and I believe that everyday as I go about my day I see that this my true calling, and I believe that this is what I am suppose to do. I interact with patients all the time when they come into their appointments and there is never a dull moment. They share, and I listen because some have no one to talk to and I believe that me being that person that can talk to not only help them but also helps me to become a great listener and they thank me for that. I am very dependable and very realiable and I am vey compassionate about my work and my job. I am a very positive person and I truly believe that is what make my job easier to do because I love helping people and bring a smile to their faces.
