I am a retired teacher of 35 years. After 4 months of retirement, I decided I was not ready for retirement. I am a science(biology) major and have always loved the medical field. I wanted to get certified in the medical field and become involved. As a teacher, I bring the desire to help others. I have recently been certified as a CNA. During my clinical time in a nursing home, I learned to individualize needs of the residents. I came to understand their personalities. I still visit that nursing home bringing magazines and books to them. I enjoy talking to them. I know some may not have visitors come very often. Therefore, I feel I can fill a void. As far as personal achievement, I do not have any so far in the caregiver area, but had many in my teaching career. In my teaching career, I was able to develop and coach academic competing science teams. Many of the events my students competed in were medical based. I spent many hours after regular school time to prepare my students. It was a personal satisfaction to see the look on the faces of my students after all of our work. As should be noted, a teacher's day never ended after an 8 hour day. Work was always taken home. In conclusion, I feel my past career and my desire to want to be in the medical/caregiver field gives me reasons why I will be a good caregiver.
