My name is Christine Lane and I have been a private Caregiver for over 17 years. My journey began when I was an Activities Director for a nursing home that specialized in Alzheimer's and Schizophrenia. I then took a CNA course at Kennesaw State University continuing education program and I received my CNA license in 2006. I began working with private families in 2007 and I have stayed with each of those families until my patient passed away or moved away. The bond that I have created with each of my patient's and their families is very special and a calling in my life. I have helped administer medication, I have helped take them to doctors appointments and to social functions. I have helped bathe them and dress them and get them to the emergency room when emergencies have happened. I have worked alongside many hospice teams as each of my patients got closer to the end of life and I have been a true support for all of my patients when it came time to their passing. Being there for them and their families to bring comfort and peace during that difficult time. My last patient that passed away, I was with him for 8 1/2 years. He was like another grandparent to me. And I was able to help hold him up as he was vomiting, and I was able to help carry him when he couldn't walk anymore and helped him stay comfortable as his body got closer to shutting down. That is just one example in one chapter of my 17 years of Caregiving. I also helped take care of his wife for five years and I was with them, comforting her, and the family all the way up until the day she took her last breath . I have worked along with many Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists with my patients, learning the exercises and care plan steps to help provide those exercise and care on the off days. I help keep their homes clean and organized to their request. I add in music therapy and dance and art to help with memory care and to bring joy. Caregiving is a calling of the heart!
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
