About Lisa

I am a friendly, energetic, person that loves working with people especially in the medical/caregiving field. I am very empathetic, and have a huge amount of patience, which I think are so key in dealing with the sick, the elderly and the young. I have been interested and involved in the medical/caregiver field all my life even taking care of my Alzheimer grandfather when I was just 10. ( I was the only one in the family with the patience and aptitude!) I think this is ultimately what drew me to the field is my love and compassion for the hurt, the young, and the elderly. I truly love being a caregiver, medical personnel and it shows in the care I give my patients. I have a high standard for myself and strive to treat my patients as well as I would my family, in fact I have considered many of my patients as my family and have kept in contact with them after care, or with family members after the patient passes. I have taken care of some very extreme patients ie; quads in wheelchairs and on ventilators, I am comfortable with all levels of care for my patients from the low level needs, to high intensive needs and have a vast knowledge to work with all of these types of patients.

Samantha Jones
Samantha is a 76 year old woman who suffered a massive stroke ( her 5th overall ) resulting in aphasia limited use of her right side and needed almost full time help. I took care of her physical needs, showering. dressing, undressing, walking, (she walked with a walker). I took her to her medical appointments including physical therapy and counseling appointments. I also took care of her home doing typical cleaning and washing, including preparing her food and helping her eat. I was able to become her translator being able to understand her inability to speak we were able to communicate remarkably well which made the dr and other appointments go more efficiently.

steven Lynch
Steven was a 23 year old with MS. He was completely immobile except very limited use of his fingers in both hands allowing him to steer his motorized wheelchair, and use his computer (aided). I did all personal care using an automated hoyer for into/out of bed functions. I showered him, brushed teeth, dressed, and took care of all personal physical needs also using the hoyer to allow him to use the bathroom. I also did minor house work, laundry, keeping his own room clean dusted, vacuumed, cooking for him and also feeding him, and laundry. He was able to speak normally that made the job much easier and fun. I took him to medical/dental appointments, out to nightclubs, or out to friends. Normal stuff for someone in college his age. (he was in college although I was mostly the afternoon, evening and nightcare so I did not take him to his courses. (he lived in Sherwood Oregon, but that isn't on the list above.

Brian Smole
Brian was a 46 yr old man with advanced ALS. I was his personal care giver taking care of all personal issues and functions as he was fully immobile, in an electric wheelchair we manipulated around. I dressed/undressed him, bathed him, he was on a respirator and had a Gtube for feeding. I was responsible for cleaning changing and operating the respirator. I switched out the functioning parts of the respirator cleaning and replacing as needed from the neck thru the whole working system. I did any wound care as needed, including the replacement of the outside g-tube parts, all of the respirator parts and I used a manual hoyer to get him in and out of bed, and for bodily functions. I took his vitals, I exercised his muscles so the wouldn't atrophy. Since he was unable to speak or move in anyway we used a system of eye blinks to communicate using the alphabet and blinks to get his point made. Again I became one of the best of the caregivers able to communicate with him. I made all his food from scratch and blended it for use in the g-tube. I cleaned, vacuumed, changed linen on his bed daily, laundry, kitchen duties, everything for meeting his daily needs.

I began working as a caregiver st the age of 17. Actually much younger as I often would take care of my mom as she was bipolar and needed a lot of assistance. Caregiving and helping people as always come very natural to me and provides me with a lot of joy. Being able to help with people is always been a priority to me. I have worked in a variety of environments which I believe makes me versatile. I bring positivity into the lives of the clients I work with. I am patient, openminded, compassionate, reliable, a great listener, organized and flexible.

My whole life I have always cared for some one. My first real caregiving job was at 16 and I loved it. It is a true blessing to help those that need a little extra care in life due to a illness, accident, or just the aging process. I enjoy cooking, art, gardening, and reading when I have time. I'm from Oahu and moved to Maui 1990. Then got some mainland experience before coming back home to Maui.
