My name is Silivia, and people can call me Syl in short . I am 32 years of age . I am an Pacific Islander , which is from Fiji . I've live here in California for 10 years and with all these years , I've been doing caregiving jobs. My personality : I am a very humble lady and holds a lot of patience, I'm very kind , very loving , I work with all my abilities and fulfilling jobs and tasks required more than expected. My experiences : I've looked after hospices, bed ridden cases, dementia, Alzheimers, strokes, transfers cases, catheter cases. What attracted me to being a caregiver: I have the passion , sacrifices, commitment, and love [?] to look after the elders and seniors . Back home (In Fiji) , we live with our extended family and elderly, and it's part of our lives to take care for our elders. So with that , when I do my job in California as a caregiver, I count the elders I looked after to be part of my very own family. So with love and care , I make sure, the elders are looked after according to their needs and make them very comfortable. What I enjoyed about being a caregiver : Getting to know the different clients, learning new things, moving to new environments, adapting to new way of living , even adopt to new food with my clients according to their taste and sometimes I fix food according to the Way I cook and bake, it is exciting and interesting. Personal Achievement : I've learnt new life experiences , I have been able to become a good cook and baker in the way the clients like. Caregiving jobs enable me to drive and attain my valid California driving license. It gave me confidence to drive my clients to appointments and attend to recreational centers or even take them for rides. I am from the island so I grew up caring for my grandparents and younger siblings. So it's what I have been doing and use to doing now that I am an adult I do still help to care for my parents grandparents and also my own kids it's in me I do have patience and I love caring for anyone that needs the help just makes me feel good knowing they need my help. I started working caregiver when my mom and aunties would need a reliver someone to cover for there private caregiver jobs so I would fill in for hours or a day or even live in for few days as we all know it's a hard thing to do dedicating ur time and help when u have ur own families so it does take a village like they say u can't do it alone. Than I got my own private caregiver job I started working only weekends live this client had a colostomy bag also dementia and Alzheimer's so she really need the care around the clock I would help with her meals medication reminders also driving her to appointments and doing groceries for her and light house keeping I worked for this one client for 14 years straight it went from only weekends adding the week nights to the whole 24 hour 7 days a week. I would get my mom and cousins to relieve me when I would go on vacation or have time off but I was the main caregiver. I do still keep in contact with the family for reference cause it's hard to find private caregiver jobs.

I become a caregiver because I enjoy taking care of elderlies. It is satisfying to see them happy and enjoying life with the loving care I give. I like to bring change to a family - a change that sees improvement from the day I first arrive. I had been a Caregiver for the last 11 years and had worked privately as well as through agencies. I have a soft spot for the elderly. I am very patient and compassionate towards them and this makes me care for them better. I like caregiving because I enjoy the wisdom I learn from the elderly. I enjoy cooking for the elderly. I love that I am able to offer support to this population at their most vulnerable moments. I feel like i am empowering them and giving them an opportunity to live the rest of their lives at the comfort of their own home. I am very proud of raising my 3 children into 3 successful adults.

As a Caregiver It is essential that a great caregiver feel the desire to want to help. And the qualities of being patience to the situation, loyal to the patient and reliable to the responsibility. By showing both empathy and compassion, a caregiver will let the person know that they care about them. I want to be a caregiver because I enjoy working with people and enjoy jobs where you have one-on-one interaction with others. I enjoyed taking care of elder family members and would like to help others in this way. and also feel the satisfaction if i know that i satisfied my clients with their needs. the most rewarding thing about being a caregiver, I think just meeting peoples' needs. Sometimes it's not a glamorous job but you leave and the people feel like they have been treated with dignity. Their needs are met, they're comfortable or as comfortable as you can help them become. and make sure that you satisfy their needs. Actively assisted clients in their light housekeeping activities like cleaning and running grocery shopping errands for them. and Provided exceptional emotional support through positive interaction and companionship.
