I was a hospital corpsman in the Navy and became a social worker after graduating college. I had the opportunity to advance to position of administrator of nursing homes and the executive director of assisted living facilities. As a nursing home administrator, I also became a nurse aide in order to help my nursing staff when they needed help. After retirement, I have worked as a Supported Living Counselor with developmentally disabled adults and as a home health aide with seniors. I also cared for my 85 y/o aunt full time until she died. Living on my Social Security income, I work for personal satisfaction and for the additional income. I have had several personal achievements for which I am proud, but the greatest have been those recognized by my clients' families who have commended me on the quality of my care and who have thanked me for allowing their family members to effectively delay institutionalization.
