I've been a caregiver for over 8 years , I started in my early 20's caring for my grandparents and after that was done I Decided to branch out . I didn't think I'd be doing this as long as I have but it's been better than I thought it would be so here I am .

I believe that I am a great caregiver for many reasons such as my knowledge, my experience, and my personality. I have the knowledge and skills that I have gained from a Home Health Aide course at Delaware Technical Community College (Del Tech) in which I received a certificate. The course equipped me well to perform the Home Health Aide caregiver tasks and as part of the course I became BLS certified. I also have some experience as a caregiver for eight months. During that time I was responsible for daily morning routine care, companionship care when my care person did not go to Modern Maturity Center, light housekeeping, and occasionally taking my care person to doctor appointments. I only left to become a stay at home dad which I did for nine years. In addition I have the temperament to be a caregiver. I am friendly, patient, honest, detail oriented, hardworking, quick to learn, and always ready to listen or have a conversation. I became a caregiver because I knew I can make a difference in a person's life by assisting them with activities of daily living when their family cannot. I knew I had the personality that was necessary to be a caregiver and everything else could be learned, either on the job or by taking a course. What I like about being a caregiver is the satisfaction that I feel after helping a person who needs assistance in their activities of daily living. Helping them to do basic activities that I take for granted everyday and knowing that this made a difference in a person's life. There are a couple of personal achievements that I am proud of. One is that I was able to pass the Home Health Aide course with a 97. Another one was when I was able to inspire my care person to ambulate more. When I left he was ambulating further than he had in many years.
