I would say my expertise of me being a caregiver is that I'm patient , kind & show respect to the client and their families. Providing quality care is my goal. What attracted me to being a caregiver is that I had the pleasure of help taking care of my great grandmother and my great great grandmother up until god called them home. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is that I can provide help to those in need . Knowing that I'm making a difference in someone's life who is in need makes me feel good .

I was the caregiver/caretaker for both of my parents. In the beginning, my mom had several, health issues. I thought at the time, I would get involve and take her to her doctors appointments and learn all I could to encourage and to better able to assist her, in living healthier. So we changed her diet and I helped her in preparing meals and other activities. Several years later, my mom was diagnosed with dementia. I didn't know then, the rolls of mother and daughter would change. For the next 18 years, I became her full-time caregiver. Although; it was extremely overwhelming at times, I knew no one would ever take care of mom like I would. Moreover; my personal achievement in taking care of her and preparing meals; she did not succumb to any of the complications of diabetes, which happens to many people with the disease. Although my dad didn't have as many health issues as my mom, he was older. He didn't have dementia and he lived to the age of 94. I'm dependable, patient and very compassionate. I am a cheerful, engaging, understanding, positive and loving individual. I have a great heart of compassion, empathy and love to help those in need. It warms my heart to know that I am able to add joy, comfort and a sense of peace in individuals lives that I care for. I have been in the healthcare field for 16 years, I have been blessed with a special gift of being a natural nurturer. When I was 14 years old I helped my mom care for my grandmother who was paralyzed and nonverbal, she required total care. That experience was my introduction into the healthcare field. Just as in my first experience, today I still get a rewarding feeling to know that I am able to have a positive impact in the lives of those who are in need. In my personal journey I've learned it's not about finding myself, it's about creating who I'm designed to be.

I like to have full conversation with people to help me get to know them better. Being in the caregiver field I have learned great communication skills. I am the oldest daughter of 2 younger siblings and I have always been there to help my single mother take care of them and my grandmother and ever since I can remember, taking care of others is something that just comes naturally to me. What I enjoy the most about being a caregiver is being able to learn about my client by getting to know them by having conversations. This helps me better when taking care of my clients. I have always had a love for caring for people, and that is why I want to be a nurse. I am very dependable, punctual and would never neglect to give someone the best care I could provide for them. My mom worked in rehab for quite a long time and I always loved going to work with her because it warmed my heart to see the older people so happy when they saw a young person that was just there to talk to them and have fun.
