I was the caregiver/caretaker for both of my parents. In the beginning, my mom had several, health issues. I thought at the time, I would get involve and take her to her doctors appointments and learn all I could to encourage and to better able to assist her, in living healthier. So we changed her diet and I helped her in preparing meals and other activities. Several years later, my mom was diagnosed with dementia. I didn't know then, the rolls of mother and daughter would change. For the next 18 years, I became her full-time caregiver. Although; it was extremely overwhelming at times, I knew no one would ever take care of mom like I would. Moreover; my personal achievement in taking care of her and preparing meals; she did not succumb to any of the complications of diabetes, which happens to many people with the disease. Although my dad didn't have as many health issues as my mom, he was older. He didn't have dementia and he lived to the age of 94. I'm dependable, patient and very compassionate. I like to have full conversation with people to help me get to know them better. Being in the caregiver field I have learned great communication skills. I am the oldest daughter of 2 younger siblings and I have always been there to help my single mother take care of them and my grandmother and ever since I can remember, taking care of others is something that just comes naturally to me. What I enjoy the most about being a caregiver is being able to learn about my client by getting to know them by having conversations. This helps me better when taking care of my clients. Hi, my name is Bethany and I am a college student at Forsyth Tech, majoring in nursing, and currently working towards my CNA. I have always had a love for caring for people, and that is why I want to be a nurse. I am very dependable, punctual and would never neglect to give someone the best care I could provide for them. My mom worked in rehab for quite a long time and I always loved going to work with her because it warmed my heart to see the older people so happy when they saw a young person that was just there to talk to them and have fun.
