My experience as a caregiver started early in my life when my older brother became mentally disabled. His mental and physical health deteriorated very quickly, which required constant supervision of his behavior, whereabouts, medicine intake and basic day-to-day needs. Later, due to severe trauma and illness, my mother became bed-ridden and remained so for 26 months until her passing away. I, once again, was her primary caregiver.
