I spent some time caring for elderly women while in High School. It was during this time that I realized my passion for helping others. I thought that psychology would be the correct path for me, however I did not feel the same gratification as when I was helping those who could no longer care for themselves. Sixteen years ago, a friend of mine (that was a Certified Nurses Aide), recommended I might find the same fulfillment as she did in that field. I applied for hands on training at Briarcliff Pavilion where I learned the basics of becoming a Certified Caregiver. Since that time I have strived to help people fulfill their quality of life and provide support to their family and friends.

What makes me a great caregiver is that I am genuine at what I do. I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping people and making people happy. It makes me happy knowing I made someone's day and that I accomplished something. Seeing people smile makes me smile!

What I believe makes me a great caregiver is because what I lack in years of experience I make up in hard work, dedication and compassion. What made me decide to become a caregiver was a desire to help people, and also the idea that I could actually make a difference in people lives; whether it being as small as remembering that they prefer their coffee black or as significant as assisting them in their daily therapies so they can recover the best they can. What I like about being a caregiver is the simple fact that I can be a companion for those who may feel lost or forgot, a shoulder to cry on for those who are saddened or frustrated, and overall a reliable friend for anyone who needs one. A personal achievement I am proud of is earning my license to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and sticking it out at my current job at a skilled nursing facility when the going got tough.

I became a caregiver many years ago for the look in someone's eyes when you have truly helped them weather it was helping in bathing or a cup of coffee, my grandma had Alzheimer's and I was privileged enough to be one of the many great people who where able to care for her. I am a dependable, punctual individual who works great as a team and also wonderfully independently.

I'm a compassionate person who loves providing care to those that would otherwise not be able to do so. I've always possessed a nurturing nature, so caregiving comes natural to me. I've worked in different personal care facilities, and a nursing home. It gives me great satisfaction, and the job enables me to bring a positive change in the lives of my clients. Hi families! I am Kayla, currently a nursing Major at Waynesburg. Through my technical school I was able to receive my CNA license, we did our clinical in a nursing home and I loved it. I love to listen to, talk to, help and just be around the people that need me the most. Through this program I was also votes on by staff, my grades and motivation to be the nursing assist student of the year and senior of the year. I am forever grateful for that opportunity. But I am more grateful that is has led me to my forever career. Being a care giver is such a rewarding feeling and I feel as if when I am providing care, I am not actually 'working.' I like to connect with my patients on a level that is more personable then just their 'caregiver.'
