My major objective for becoming a caregiver is to make a difference in people's lives. People need a doctor to diagnose and treat their diseases and ailments, they need a nurse to administer medication and treatment when they are sick. However, at all times they need a caregiver to listen to them, attend to their everyday needs and treat them with compassion. That is where I come in. What I like about being a caregiver is that it affords me the opportunity to use what I have, the skill, knowledge, experience coupled with love, honesty and integrity to help people in need. One personal achievement I am proud of is the completion of the NRCPT Phlebotomy Technician's certificate and yet, rather than sit down to do venipuncture, I chose to do what I like most--care for people. I have worked in various aspects of the healthcare system. Overseas, I worked as pharmacy technician, medical assistant and nursing assistant for eight years. Here in the United States I have taken care of different kinds of patients especially the geriatric population and those with Alzheimer's disease as a professional certified by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. I am very reliable, dependable and both a team player and team leader. I do my job with integrity and honesty. Moreover, I take the job personal in that I view the patient as if he/she was my father/grandfather, mother/grandmother, uncle/aunty.

I'm certified by the State of Texas as a CNA; I completed a 8-week training course at Houston Community College. I did a month of clinical at Treemont Assisted Living facility located in Houston, Texas. My duties were feeding, bathing, dress, and assist with mobility. In terms of your job requirements, I can cook, clean, and do laundry, lift, carry and transport items up to 30lbs. I've had the opportunity to work at Texana for 2 1/2 years as a House Parent during those exact duties. I love caring for people. I have been a caregiver the majority of my life. Along with working as a caregiver currently, I was my maternal grandmothers caregiver while she had Alzheimer's until she passed in November 2015. I then became a caregiver to my paternal grandmother who had liver cancer for a few months until she passed in November of 2016. I have taken care of or been a companion of many others for over 20 years. I like giving back and helping those that are unable to help themselves. I treat my clients and take care of them like they are my family. I like to talk about just about anything and love to hear about their lives. I enjoy seeing a smile on their faces because they have someone to talk to and listen to them and help them.

I earned my Nursing Assistant Certification right out of high school in 2005. I've also worked in several nursing homes in New Orleans, LA from 2005-2012. My life's passion for practicing as a caregiver and working in the healthcare field has been seriously rewarding physiologically. Helping families and efficiently managing complex tasks is what I enjoy most about being a caregiver.

After 18 years of being a stay at home mother, I decided to get out in the working world. After seeing how a home health team worked with my grandfather years ago, it sparked my interest. I would sit with them all night long, asking questions and helping. Thankfully they did not mind. My personality ranges, depends on who I am working with. I love hearing stories of peoples life's, in hopes to learn something from them. Have a great listening ear. I unfortunately have never worked with the elderly, except for my grandparents. Which I loved to do. One achievement that I am very proud of is finishing school to become a certified phlebotomist.
