My father was 101 and my mother was 96 when they passed away, so I spent many years of my adult life as their caregiver during various stages of their lives. Once my youngest child went away for college, I became a professional caregiver and find it very rewarding. For 4 years I was privileged to provide full time care for a wonderful family who became like family to me. I am a very loyal, dependable, compassionate person who tries to make life fun and enjoyable. I'm also an excellent cook and know how to be an advocate during Dr. appointments and visits with physical therapists.
I am a caring, loyal, reliable, patient, positive & trustworthy person. I love & enjoy care-giving, spending time serving & helping --working with families to care for their loved ones. I have had many experiences with my own family members dating back to 1994 as well, so I can completely understand & relate to what other families are going through. Those experiences & my long & extensive years working with many other families over time is what makes me an excellent caregiver. I have excellent work / personal references available immediately upon request.
I've been a caregiver for a little under 3 years now and most of my experience is with patients that have ALS. I really enjoy what I do and try my hardest to give each person a chance to live their best life regardless of what their issues are! I don't pretend to know everything, but I do pride myself in using the knowledge I have gained to help other families in similar situations. In addition to care and assistance with ADLs such as but not limited to bathing/grooming, toileting, etc, I can also help with meal preparation, medication, feeding tubes, trach care, transfers, and daily PT/OT. I believe that a good caregiver not only cares for the patient, but also the family and the home. I'm patient, reliable, friendly, trustworthy, and eager to help! Give me a chance and you won't be disappointed!
I have had a life-long passion for working with adults who are differently abled, and have a great amount of compassion and empathy for such individuals. I started volunteering as a peer counselor when I was working on my bachelor's degree, and found it to be incredibly rewarding. After two more volunteering positions in human services, in addition to working as a case manager and caregiver with dementia-diagnosed clients, I decided that I wanted to dedicate my life to caregiving and social services, and continue this amazing journey. There is great satisfaction in being able to assist individuals who are in need of help to maintain a quality of life that they desire, in addition to helping people to better themselves. I am very proud of the work that I have accomplished both academically, in my community, and professionally. And lastly, here's a little bit about me: I have a BA in psychology and human services, and have aspirations to return to school for a doctorate in psychology. On a personal note, I am an artist in my down time, love my two dogs, appreciate the outdoors, am an avid gardener, and very much love cooking and baking.

I just retired from the military on 31 October 2015 after 29.5 years of service. During my time of service I had many elderly family members that died and I was unable to be there for them due to my service obligations. Now that I'm retired....I want to give someone the care that I was unable to give to my family. I have much love, care, listening and talking skills to give alone with whatever else that's needed for the person that I'm providing care for. I am willing to go for walks with the client, cook for them, take them grocery shopping, help them with whatever else they need help with except cleaning poop. I will treat the person that I'm caring for the way I want to be treated when I am in the need of assistance. Before I joined the military in 1986, I worked in a Nursing Home for 6 months.
