I feel like I am a good caregiver because when my dad turned 80 he needed extra help because he started forgetting some stuff. Started to get Alzheimer's. So I began helping him with medication, cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, doctor appointments, bill paying etc. Sometimes I would find myself at his home 4-5 times a day answering questions over and over again or just to keep him company. He had some amazing stories of his life so I overstayed my visits. It was great! He passed away at 90. Then my sister started having medical problems when she turned 65. I did the same for her and would spend a lot of time with her as well. I cleaned her home, did her laundry and took her to doctor appointments. I kept her company at the hospital as often as I could. We spent a lot of time on the phone. It helped so she wasn't so bored. I enjoyed the time I spent with both of them. It made me feel useful. So after all the help I gave to both of them, I started to look into Caregiving. It's a great career. To help others is great!

Hi there, my name is Abby and I have been working in caregiving/healthcare for about 8 years. My mother worked as a CNA her whole life. I would often volunteer in the facilities she worked at, and I started as a CNA myself when I was 16. I have experience in a variety of healthcare settings, from home care to facilities to pharmacies to disability care. I have completed extensive training in Alzheimer's and dementia care, intellectual and developmental disabilities and basic life support and first aid. I have always been passionate about helping people and I love being able to help seniors stay in their homes and maintain their independence. Being able to form connections with clients, getting to know what they enjoy, and supporting them in continuing to the things they love is very important to me. I started caregiving when my dad was diagnosed with dementia. I really enjoyed it and decided to do in-home care. I like meeting new people and have found caregiving to be very rewarding.
