To me it is such a rewarding career being that not only do you get to know your patients well but also get to know their families as well. I have been working as a caregiver for over 15 years now. What made me want to be a CNA/ Caregiver, was when I was 16 my grandfather whom I was very close to had a massive stroke and ended up being paralyzed on the right side, he had to be placed into a LTC center even though we wanted to keep him at home. But it was when I visited him daily that I saw and realized what being a caregiver actually entailed. They were so good to him, and in turn he not only thought the World of them, but we all did to. This helped me to realize what I wanted to do when I grew up.

Caregivers are all around us. But that doesn't mean they are all great caregivers. When it comes down to what separates the caregivers from the great caregivers there are some marked traits and work habits that stand out. Those who have experienced a great caregiver could make a list of what makes them great and sets them apart from the crowd. Working with people in a home care setting, it is essential that a caregiver feel the desire to want to help. By showing both empathy and compassion, I will let the person they are caring for know that they care about the person and want to do what they can to help them. When you work with someone who needs home care it is important that you are patient and understanding. It helps to sometimes put yourself in the other person's shoes and see what it might be like to ask people for help. A great caregiver is someone that can be counted on to be there. Most people who need home care services are in a vulnerable position. They are inviting someone into their home to be near their valuables. A good caregiver is someone who is trustworthy in this regard, as well as in being trusted to keep the client's information confidential.

I am a Nurse with a great passion for my career in nursing. I have always spent my time caring for others throughout my life including children. I love being that person who can help people to feel more comfortable with their daily activities and their condition or situation. I appreciate the stages of life and the fact that every person is unique in that no two people respond to any situation or illness in the same way which requires a great deal of communication and organization to find what care plan works best for each one. My greatest accomplishment other than being a mother to my two amazing kids, has been becoming a nurse where I have gained additional skills to provide the best care possible.

I became a caregiver because I like to make a difference and help others. I loved being a nurse aid but I started doing in home caring. I know when I'm in charge of taking care of someone the job really gets done and by someone who truly cares.
