I was 15 years old and just started my freshman year of high school when I was placed in a class called Intergenerational Studies. For 2 hours each day I was taken to the nursing home called Golden Years there in Elgin, Tx. I started off just getting residents from their rooms to come and do activities with me. But it wasn't long and I was working side by side with CNAs, RNs, and at one point the DON had me shadow her for 2 weeks. I just got really interested and a few years after graduation and having my son, I pursued a CNA certification and was assigned the hospice hall and the "lockdown unit" which was occupied by the more violent patients and those with conditions such as Alzheimer's and/or parkinson's, as well as those with behavioral health conditions. I honestly just fell in love with everything about caring for the elderly. Even the hard and very emotional side of the care I provide is something I wouldn't want to stop doing. I would love to get my CNA back but just haven't attempted to do so since my husband passed in 2011. Since my high school days I have worked with all ages of people, from a 2 year old little princess to a 98 year old gentleman I referred to as Fred Astaire due to them looking like twins. He loved it and would smile so big when I walked in every day; and every day he would say "Good morning Ms. Judy (Garland). You feel like dancing the day away?" It's things like that for which I love my work. Please feel free to ask anything, I would love to tell everything now but there is just so much I've been blessed to have experienced with so many different people I'd never be done.

I have experience; first I took care of mom at home and in The Nursing home. She suffered from congestive heart failure and dementia. Same for 2 of my elderly aunts as well. I believe in life that has great quality of life. In as much as possible read with or to friend to exercise that brain. I enjoy being company and meeting clients needs. I have been blessed with compassion and joy that I can share. I believe all clients have done so much for the community they certainly deserve to be treated with loving care and respect. They deserve the best! I believe everyone has a call in life My call is to assist clients that can use my services..I am proud that I have been given the opportunity to work with clients that can use my help. I love preparing meals and seeing the client satisfied with the meal preparation. I have also been blessed with kindness, patience and lots of love for everyone.

I chose this path in the medical field from a young age when I realized how much I valued the individuality and the wisdom of my elders, and how much joy it brings me to be able to be a shining light in their darkest days. I plan on caring compassionately for my patients and rendering help to those in need. The interpersonal relationships with the patients/family are the reason I am here. In 2019, I was my father's primary caregiver, and I experienced some unprofessional nursing staff that made me want to be in the medical field even more. I have heard horror stories of unkind, unprofessional, non-caring nurses that are involved with our patients, and it utterly breaks my heart. I'm a firm believer that you lived a valuable life if you positively affected at least 1 person in your lifetime and I want to be rich in experience when my time comes. I view everyone as potential family and will always advocate for the patient with their best interest in mind. There are countless good people in this world that are deserving of so much. I crave to be a part of that experience. It's my calling here on earth and my purpose being a Christian woman. I view myself as being caring, empathetic, compassionate, understanding, medically knowledgeable, and a reliable person. I believe time with nature, is its own medicine and that love can heal. I encourage the patient to be active in their care and maintain a positive outlook. I am detail-oriented, focused, dedicated, and eager to get to know you and the family! I am a full-time student, going back to finish my bachelor's degree in nursing. I have experience with altered mental status patients and do well in deescalating situations involving conflict. I am proud of my many achievements during my studies. I would love to tell you more about myself, my education, and my experience. I am so happy to be a part of this field and your personal team. I feel I can relate to some of my clients on a level that is important to me because of my prior experiences with taking care of my mother for 9 years. This is also what attracted me to caregiving and just the fact that I can help people feel better as a person. I enjoy every aspect of caregiving and my heart is totally in it. A personal experience is the things I can learn from them and especially the older ones and their stories.

I really enjoy caring for others it gives me joy knowing that I can bring comfort and care to those in need. I am a wife, and mother to three beautiful children. I also have a fur baby, who is a Siberian husky and he is just an amazing dog.

My name is Susan . I am 63 years. I was self employed for over 40 years in the cleaning field. About 35 years ago I found myself in the position of providing care for a dear dear lady I had been cleaning for. I didn't understand at first how or why I was now caregiving but soon figured out it was meant to be. I now believe we are all given special gifts and one of my most prized is compassion and a need to take care of others. After that sweet Mrs. Ione Surrett passed on, God kept putting these people in my life that i got to take care of. Each one was a different circumstance and situation and such a blessing. Almost all have since passed on now but I have so many memories. Almost all of my experience is independent. I have however worked through a couple of agencies. I have done so many different aspects of caregiving. Everyone of my people was a different level of care. I retired from my cleaning business last year. My last person I cared for was about a year and a half ago. The most difficult part of caregiving for me is when it's over. Takes me a little while to regroup. I am now hoping to find someone to care for. I so want to do this again. I always prefer to provide caregiving independently but that is negotiable.
