My name's Mariah. Being a caregiver is something I've done seems all my life. I grew up on a hobby farm and had many animals. I was there caregiver. They thought me responsibility, respect, patience, kindness, and much more. I chose this career path because of my father. He was very I'll in my teen years. I learned about heart disease and skin cancer. He's now in heaven cheering me on. I also took care of my aunt who had kidney disease and spina bifida. My family has taught me a lot about living life to the fullest. That's why I enjoy being a caregiver because everyone should live life to the fullest each and every day. My goals are to make everyone smile and forget there problems, even when you don't feel well a laugh is always a step forward. When I leave my shift at the end of the day, I want my clients to know there cared for, respected, and most of all safe. My clients are MY BOSS. I'm willing to go above and beyond. I am a compassionate, empathetic, outgoing and trustworthy person. I started caregiving because I love working with people they have so many good stories to share. I recently went to school to get my nursing assistant certification, on my way to be a nurse.

There are many qualities that make one a great caregiver. My qualities are that I try to do my best when working with residents as well as trying to understand them. Aging out does not mean they do not have needs or that they should not be heard, I try to use critical thinking and make every resident as comfortable as possible so their needs are being met. I am an outgoing person I love to help others and exceed my job expectations, I am a carrying person who is easygoing and takes responsibilities as well as the needs of others seriously. I have a grandfather with dementia and this made me want to help others who need an assistant. I have seen the lack of caregivers there is for elders. I love caregiving because it allows me to have a better understanding of what goes on in others' life and I get to be part of people's life making a difference in assisting them or bringing them a smile. I am proud of the person I am and how far I have gotten with my psychology and social work bachelors that I am currently working on.

Being able to empathize allows me to put myself in the patient's shoes, and identify and ease the patient's fears or discomfort. Patience and flexibility. There'll be many hurdles along the way-the patient is being stubborn and uncooperative, the schedule doesn't go as planned, or difficult situations arise. I will find a way to deal with this in a positive way. Having a good sense of humor. Is a good indicator that I would be able to tolerate and deal with difficult situations, which is essential because caregiving involves conditions that more people would find hard or challenging.

I believe I have the personality traits needed to be a good caregiver. I am the second oldest of six kids and from a very young age I naturally assumed the responsibility of being "Mom #2". My parents instilled a very strong work ethic and moral principals that have contributed greatly throughout my years of experience in various fields. In 2014, I was privileged with the opportunity of caring for my grandmother in her final years. I provided help with caring for her daily basic needs, as well as administering medication, running errands, providing transportation and accompanying her to various appointments, cleaning house and daily meal preparation. My greatest accomplishment thus far, has been becoming a mother of three beautiful children. It is a role that I am very proud of and I'm confident it will continue to provide me with ongoing experience (especially in the are of multi-tasking)! I am best known for being a very compassionate individual, who is not only trustworthy but very dependable. I enjoy helping others in areas where I can utilize my skills and be of service. It is in this area that I excel most.
