I grew up without grandparents. I have seen how the elderly can get mis treated and abused because they are so vulnerable. I love being around older people . I have a passion for taking care of the elderly. I've always been a very active person my whole life and taking care of them warms my heart, keeps me young and on my toes. They have so much knowledge and wisdom about life through there experiences . I currently am a caregiver for a older couple who have been married for 65 years . I've been with them for over 3 years now. I absolutely love them like if they were my own grandparents. And they love me just the same. I always treat my clients as if they were my own family . Because one day I myself am going to need the time and attention that I do give to my clients now. Do the elderly want to be dependent on someone else . Absolutely not and it does affect there emotions. But showing them patience and love and kindness will go along way with them. Being a care giver is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. When your client looks at you and tells you they love you . They're saying it because they truly want to not because they have too. I am also a certified nursing assistant. I also familiar with incontinence and exporting . All ADLs , medication distribution, cooking and cleaning ,bathing dressing and grooming. I can run errands . I can transport to docs appts . I'm also familiar with wound care. And using hoist lifts . I love to make people smile and feel good about themselves and it makes me feel good about myself . I have known since I was young what i wanted to do in life. I wanted to be a Mom, wife and I wanted to care for others. When I got my first job as a caregiver I knew I was right where I belonged. Its physically and mentally challenging on a loved one to always have to do everything and especially if their not trained or knowledgeable about what they need to do. Its honestly a full time job. That's where my help comes in. At the end of The day the stories I get to hear and the knowledge they share with me is priceless. Most importantly I listen and talk with them. If they cant I will play music or read to them. I will bath them and change them if they are incontinent. My time with them Is just that. I am 20 years old, and I wanted to become a caregiver because I thoroughly enjoy helping people in need. I plan to become a Registered Nurse so I can further my career in care giving. I am patient when it comes to taking care of the elderly, I am highly respectful of them and let them set the pace when there is a certain everyday living activity we are accomplishing; I do my best to encourage them and let them make decisions about their care so they can stay as independent as possible, and it is my personal goal each day to walk in with a smile on my face to ensure that my patient and their families know I am more than happy to help them in any way that I can. I am also very understanding when it comes to families worrying about certain things with their lived one(s) and do my best to assure them that I will always keep my patient's best interest at heart.
