I have been working with the elderly for 13 years. I love working with the elderly, children, and pets. I have a passion for it. I'm 40 years old and have been doing it since I was 14 years old starting out assist my mother with my grandparents and haven't turned away since. I have a very high passion for it, and I enjoy every second of it.

I 1st became a caregiver for my mother who had suffered a stroke in 1988. Many yrs later I gave birth to 2 premature babies and had to provide special care for them as well. what I love most is being able to help others. Hello, My name is Shunta Lewis. I am 36 years old mother of 4. I have always had a passion for helping others regardless of there race or color. I have always admired and wanted to follow in my mothers footsteps. She has been a LPN for 42 years and she would take me with her to visit her patients and watch (after it was ok with the patient and there family) her while she cared for them and did there assessments. It has always been a joy seeing how her patients would light up when they saw her. So I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do. I have been doing private sittings for 5 years now and I have well over 10 yrs in experience. I have years of experience in checking blood sugars, charting and taking vital signs, Diverticulitis, Diabetes, hyper and hypotension, Alzheimer's, Dementia, as well as administering the right dosage of medicine and insulin. When I get involved with a patient they become family to me. I treat them as such. I have lost both of my grandparents on both sides, I helped in taking care of them up until there final days. My last patient of 4 years who was 84 years old was put into a nursing home after her family could no longer care for her without me during my time off to have my daughter. It hurt me so bad, we did everything together. I would go wake her up in the morning singing to her and she would just smile. I would check her blood sugar and blood pressure. Then I would lift her out of her bed. Put her on her bedside pot, then clean her up and bathe her then dress her. I would then put her into her wheelchair and wheel her in her front room to be put into her lift chair. Then I would go cook her breakfast and me and her would eat then I would administer her daily meds to her. I then would put her back on her potty to use the restroom. Then depending on how she felt me and her would take a stroll around her yard and look at her garden. There is nothing like knowing that you a made a difference in some ones life.

I am cpr and first aide certified, I have years of experience with caring for others, I have done caring for family members by bathing turning them every couple hours, laundry and light housekeeping, I have done vitals, and weight, I can transfer to toilet, shower chair, wheelchair, and bed. I have experience in putting compression stoking/socks on, along with getting their clothes on. I have great communication skills and active listening skills, I can tell "dad jokes" and have no problem reminding about medication.

I am patient and caring . I was attracted to being a caregiver in 2015 when my grandfather didn't get the care he needed inside his home . I promised myself I would do whatever I had to do so no one else's grandparents would have to experience the same thing . I enjoy the company of my elders , watching them smile and just being able to be there. I am proud of still being able to keep my promise to myself
