I have helped a client who had a stroke and was recovering at home. I have held the hand of a man on his deathbed and stayed with him so his family could rest. I have helped another man with depression just by simply cleaning his home and talking with him. He was beaming as he said his house hadn't been that clean since his wife was alive. I have heard so many amazing stories and adventures of people who had been through different periods of this past century and I absolutely love what I do! I have worked for companies in the past but I prefer to work privately now. Some weren't bad but I did not like that they did not want their caregivers to become close with the client and their family. The other downside is when going through a company, the client may get several different caregivers in a week and they do not generally like that. I love being the only caregiver for a client because it builds trust and comfortability and the client doesn't have to explain their routine with someone new every other day.

I became a care-giver because I feel like I needed to experience taking care of others. I enjoy making my residents smile and lift their spirits. I have worked in long term care for a year and I'm in the process of receiving my medication aide license and I have intentions on becoming a nurse.

My love for being a caregiver started when I was 15, my grandmother had cancer. So I took care of her after school 7 days a week. At 16 I stared working at the nursing home.
