I always enjoyed the company of seniors. When it was necessary to get a job I decided to go into the home health business. I received my CNA licensing in Illinois. Went on to operate my own in home health business there for 23 years. I did a lot of different things for my clients. Some I seen once a month, others daily. Helped them move from one housing situation to another.ie (their home , assisted living, nursing home facility). I have worked with Hospice agencies as a representative for the family, making sure that all the comforts were given to my client. I placed live-ins with those who needed them and supervised their care. I prepared meals for their special diets and family favorites. This is something I really enjoy. I take particular pride in solving difficult situations such as making a meal they enjoy but are unable to eat unless served to meet their swallowing needs. Or finding ways to keep them engaged in doing things they enjoyed but are now limited. One client had no appetite but loved bacon and could no longer eat it due to medical reasons. So I would make a slice of bacon and give her the food she could eat. The smell helped with the appetite. When I found myself in the throws of a divorce and needed to earn an income that would support myself and 2 small children this was my course of action.
