About Diane

While completing the most challenging term of the occupational therapy assistant program at St Louis Community College in 2005, I cared for my father while he was in hospice for the last few weeks of his life. It was during this time that I established my core principle as a health care provider: work to ensure that each person lives and dies with dignity. During my years as a caregiver, I've learned to place a high value on my characteristics that foster a positive experience with a client. I offer enthusiasm, willingness to be wrong, sense of humor, and the ability to communicate at another person's level. These qualities can alter an experience from good to great. I've worked in homes and facilities, for patients with a variety of physical or mental conditions. My on the job training has included administering medications, auditing chart notes, nurse-delegated tasks such as insulin injections and wound care. I've forgotten much of what I've learned, to be honest. What I don't forget is the importance of providing the care that each patient deems right to remain dignified. After several years away from a job in healthcare, I've recently had the pleasure of providing in home care for an elderly man in hospice. For me, the remarkable aspect of caregiving are the implicit roles necessary to ensure that clients and patients maintain as much autonomy and individuality as possible. It's the way a caregiver approaches the nuances of everyday life that determines the quality of care, and life, for a patient. My enthusiasm, ability to find gratitude in all things, patience, and sense of humor are the qualities that let me shine. Providing care is not always easy. Firmly upholding the value of assisting people in a way that preserves their autonomy and dignity is what keeps me going through the not easy aspects of care giving.

What makes me a great caregiver is that I am compassionate and empathize with my clients. I am there to help them, YES but I want them to feel that I care about them and will be there when they need me. I became a caregiver and chose this path for myself because I know what it feels like to have no one beside me and also does my grandmother and that's why I have been by her side . Its something about putting a smile on another persons face or picking them up when they aren't feeling so well, gives me a certain type of strength and confidence knowing that I can do that for a person that needs it the most. I also take my work very seriously and I am a very reliable and flexible.

I have been a caregiver formally for 14 years, obtaining my CNA license in 2006. However, the first part of my career was spent in the nonprofit sector as a successful administrator/program developer. Then my father had his first stroke. I had always promised that he would be taken care of by his family for as long as possible when the time came, and the time had come. He moved into my home and I realized that I actually was very good at caregiving, and I liked doing it. When my father passed away, I moved to Portland, OR and got my license as a CNA in 2006. I also have a BS in Sociology with a minor in Fine Art, did post graduate work in various behavioral therapies and have spent many years studying complimentary healing modalities. I even spent a few years as an Activity Coordinator for an Assisted Living Center. Love cooking, gardening and pets. I co-owned a cleaning company and was a caterer in the past so I am very familiar with the high standards you deserve. My clients and their families have given me some of the most profound, loving experiences of my life. Together, with client, family and healthcare providers, we will create a progressive and responsive support system. Is your home arranged to serve you best? Does the food that you eat heal or harm you? Have you used an advocate to go to doctor visits with you so you have every advantage for clear and useful information? Is there beauty in your life? What do you want to do with the rest of your life? How can I help you? These are the questions we will answer together. I promise to be professional, responsible, kind, empathetic and meticulous for and with you.
