When my husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, it was already in stage 4. He had to undergo surgery and we needed to hire a CNA (a requirement for his insurance) to take care of him at home so I can work. I thought why can't I be the CNA so I don't need to go out to work and I can take care of my husband and be paid for it. I inquired about it and made arrangements with insurance company and they agreed as long as I am not the primary POA. We asked his brother to be my co-POA and he agreed and so I enrolled in nursing assistant program and was certified. I got my first job taking care of my husband. As a job, I was professional in my approach and at the same time, together with our team of health providers, we exhausted all possibilities to make him better each day. Initial prognosis was two years but he withstood and stayed for 6 more years. He passed away last year. I am now presently working as CNA in one of the chains of Rehabilitiation and Therapy facilites. I love making life a little better for my patients. I know the pain (physical, emotional, mental,social pain) they have to endure and I would like to help in any possible way that could ease out their pain and discomfort. Even just a little bit of easing out what they endure matters. I am proud being a CNA and I am passionate about it. I am mother of three wonderful kids, 8, 12 and 16 year old girls, I am presently completing my BA in Social Work. I really love helping people in every way possible.
