At the age of 14, my grandma had a stroke which led to the onset of her Alzheimer's and dementia. Because of this, we decided that it would be best to partake in senior care at home rather than a senior care facility. For the next 7 years, I gained experience with aiding in her every day routines from helping her get out of bed (she had major back problems and lost control of one side of her body), helping her in the bathroom and getting dressed, preparing meals and spending time with her throughout the day. Helping her led me to want to help more with senior citizens so I volunteered for a senior activity center. This was a huge eye-opener for me as I came across many people who were left here by their families who either couldn't take care of them or didn't visit them. This really made me want to give back to those who raised the generations of parents and children today and I really enjoy the feeling I get at the end of the day as though I accomplished something better than I could doing any other job. One thing I am most proud of was even though I did lose my grandma in the middle of college, I promised her I would push through all of the hardships and go above and beyond her expectations which is how I became the first child in the family to attend and pass a University college as well as having become a manager at a store instead of settling for less.
