I am very interested in a career where I can truly make a difference in someone else's life! My personal experience serving the elderly started at a young age, taking care of and spending time with my grandmama, who was like a best friend to me, and who passed away about two years ago. As she got older, the role of a companion naturally fell to me, as my daughter and I lived right next door to her. Every moment with her was a blessed memory I will forever cherish! - For the last 5-10 years of her life, I assisted her with anything she needed help with: whether it be changing the channel, fixing anything broken around the house, helping her get around the house, driving her to church, reminding her to take her medication, help with a shower or going to the bathroom, changing her sheets, cooking her meals, cleaning her house, etc. - pretty much anything she needed help with, I was happy to do. - Spending time with both my Grandmama, my other grandparents, as well as other senior citizens I have known (such as neighbors, meals on wheels clients, family friends, etc.), has always given me joy. In sum, I feel passionately that the stories the older generation has to tell - and the wisdom they have to provide us - is often overlooked; I quite simply enjoy the opportunity to listen to them, to be with them, and to help them out however they need it.
