I provided in home care for my mother for six years while working outside the home at a part time job in the evenings four nights a week. I resigned my part time job in 2016 to care for my mother on a full-time basis. My son provided part-time care during the evenings while I worked. She finally moved to live with me in my first floor apartment in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Every morning, I wake my mother for breakfast, change her night gown and prepare a nutritional morning meal, usually consisting of egg, bacon, bagel and fruit. I administer her medicine both in the morning and in the evening. She has been attended to by The Visiting Physicians of Tidewater Virginia and I handle all coordination with the staff including home visits, picking up her prescriptions and calling for refills when necessary. I help her into the shower weekly and wash her hair and help her cleanse her body. I prepare lunch and dinner and perform household duties. I wash her laundry to ensure she has clean underwear and nightgowns, etc. I grocery shop weekly, and handle her finances. On nice days, I try to arrange to take her out to a mall or park using her wheel chair. She has Diabetes and I am required to take her blood sugar at least several times a month. I set up her nebulizer and make sure she does her breathing treatments daily for COPD. I help her to bed each evening.
