About Alice

When my mother had a stroke, I provided assistance with all aspects of daily care, including bathing, feeding, and wound care. I ensured that her medication was taken as prescribed and I ordered refills when needed. I helped with transportation to doctor's appointments and. I particularly enjoyed providing companionship and engaging her in lots of activities that interested her. It was gratifying that I could help make certain that her last year was as comfortable, dignified, and enriching as possible. These experiences helped me to appreciate how important and fulfilling providing this kind of care can be. I went back to school at Howard Community College and earned my Certified Nurses Assistance and Patient Care Tech certificates. I then work at Howard General Hospital in the Acute Ward. Since then, I have helped many acutely and chronically ill patients with rehabilitation care and in-home care. I have been able to provide transportation for my clients with my wheelchair accessible van. I hope to help you make sure your loved ones receive the care they need and deserve. Of course, I have letters of recommendations from my patients and their families members available upon request. Whether or not you feel I am a good match for your needs, I wish you the best in finding assistance and care for your loved ones.

Miss Pat was a 95 year old, who needed help with everyday needs. I worked with her Monday thru Friday. I assisted her with meals, transported her to her doctor appointments. Loaded her weekly medicines. Did light house keeping, and laundry. We played games, did puzzles, played cards, and we walked her dog twice a day, ( weather permitting) We went out to lunch, and went shopping together. She enjoyed flowers, so we went to local nurseries, and did some planting at her house. Lovely lady!

My patient is 91 years old and has diabetes and dementia whom I work with on Mondays and Wednesdays. I help him select his clothes for the day and assist him dressing. He is able to complete his morning routine with prompting shaving, teeth. I assist him with eye drops, lotion, etc. Next test his Glucose levels. I then make breakfast and give morning medicines and insulin shot. He likes to go to the mall, where we can do some walking. We have lunch and also his afternoon insulin shot. I try to incorporate activities such as play pool, cards, walks at the park, short trips, to College Park Airport museum. I bring him National Geographic magazines and we look at the photos, I encourage him read the captions to me, which he enjoys. I believe that stimulation is very important. I keep all activities, times of medicine, how he is doing in a journal for the family.

My patient was in a rehabilitation center recovering from a stroke. She was not eating and was just scared. The family asked me to see if I could help with her care. I would bring her favorite foods to her and with patience, care, and some good old fashion humor she improved. Two months later, we brought her home. The family also hired in home care people so she would have round the clock care. I then made appointments and transported her to her Neurologist, Cardiovascular, and primary doctors, for follow up care and any changes to medications. I also set up in home Physical and Occupational therapy. I kept a detailed journal of all medications taken, Blood pressure, and daily activities. She enjoyed playing games, and cards. Due to financial projections the decision was made to have a live in caretaker. Although they wanted me to fill the position, unfortunately that was not possible. I still get together with her and accompany her to her monthly luncheons with her "Red Hatters"

My patient had several strokes and was in a rehabilitation facility. Her husband was worried about her care there and made the decision to bring her home. She needed care while her husband was working. Her care included daily grooming and meals prepared and fed to her. She improved and we enjoyed music and watching her favorite TV programs. We became fast friends! She enjoyed flowers so I planted many in front yard and front porch, which she enjoyed immensely!! We colored and styled her hair and would have spa days, I help to transport her to doctor appointments, and kept daily journals of all meals and medications given, and daily activities. Unfortunately due to many complications she passed, We were all with her, and she was at peace. Her husband and I still keep in touch. Wonderful couple!! Good people!!

I became a Caregiver/Home Health Aid while caring for my grandmother who passed away. After she became ill - I cared for her, bathed her, changed her and her bedding, fed her, watched TV and read with her and cooked and cleaned for her. I enjoyed doing this and spending time with her knowing that she was getting the proper care. I have many skills I am a violist, a dancer, a bartender and I Home Health Aid. I enjoy all of these and what I enjoy most is getting to know the different people.
