I cared for my mother for almost 10 years before she passed away.

I have been a caregiver now for over four years, and it is my absolute passion. I feel as though I have been put on this earth to care for others as I have been helping to take care of my parents, who both have health issues with Type 1 diabetes and heart issues, since I was very young. It was only natural for me to move into this field; in fact, I am just finishing my junior year at Randolph Macon college in the BSN program. The skills I am gathering, along with my clinical work, have validated for me the importance of affording the best possible care to a given patient. To be honest, I am happiest when I am helping others and developing a communication base with them. I find that communication is of the utmost importance during care as the given client or patient has their own concerns and fears that need to be attended to as well. My mantra involves the complete care of a client or a patient; this is inclusive of both the mental and physical side of things. The opportunities for the path I have chosen through direct care and my field of study as a RN continue to remind me that I am doing exactly what I was put on this earth to do: to afford the best possible care to a given client or patient.
