I feel I am a great caregiver because since I began working over 6 years ago it has been caregiving. I started off as a co-op student during my senior year of high school. Upon high school graduation I was invited back to work as a regular employee, a nursing assistant, for Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Through my entire college career I remained as a nursing assistant for 5 years, when I moved my caregiving skills to a different environment and realm of work. I have been working as a direct care worker for the last year and a half working with mentally disabled individuals in the Lansing and Ypsilanti areas. I enjoy the personal relationships you get to build when giving care and knowing that I play a part in keeping my clients happy brings joy to my heart. I chose to become a care giver because I know my long term goal is to become a registered nurse, and I felt that care giving jobs were a great way to prepare myself for the compassion and comforting role a nurse should always play. A person achievement I am proud of is graduating with my bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 4 years, as well as continuing chasing my dreams of being a nurse even when my plan A fell through. The road has been long and sometimes discouraging but I am proud of myself for not giving up or changing my goals like I have watched some people do. I am the oldest of 5 siblings so in my opinion care giving has always been something I had to do and it came natural to me.
