About Amber

Hello, I am Amber Roagers and have been a caregiver for almost 6 years. I am a very caring, genuine, respectable, and easy going individual. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is being able to make a difference in peoples lives and make a bond with each of my clients. It is very rewarding job. One of the most rewarding achievements of mine being in the healthcare field these past 6 years was helping one of my clients to stop smoking cigarettes. That was a huge milestone for that client. I look forward to being able to continue to help my clients achieve these types of milestones.

As a DSP, I work with people who have physical and (or) intellectual disabilities. I bring the individuals out into the community to do activities such as going shopping, going for walks/bike rides, going to the mall, going to cooking class etc. I help cook meals for them while also engaging them to help. I make sure they receive all their prescribed medications per doctors orders. I also make sure they continue working on their activities of daily living tasks along with their personal goals in life.

I work with individuals who live in an independent living setting. As staff, I spend time with the individuals to help them work on goals that they have in their life such as going back to school, getting a drivers license, and finding a job. I bring them to doctors appointments as well as bring them out into the community to go grocery shopping or run any errands that they may have. I am also there for moral/companion support to help them face any challenges they may be experiencing and work through them.

I work with younger adults who have developmental disabilities. I pick them up from their homes in the morning with the company van and bring them back to the meeting location. We read books, do arts and crafts, and play games. I also bring them out into the community in order to give them community interaction. Along with that, I bring them to the movies, bowling, and other places for fun activities. As a team lead, I am also in charge of making sure all staff are doing their jobs correctly and train any new staff after their onboarding. I also would have to make monthly activity schedules specifically for the group I was lead for and communicate with upper management and the individuals parents about any changes in condition or behaviors.

I would take care of individuals that have physical and intellectual disabilities. I would help them with their activities of daily living tasks such as helping them bathe, brush their teeth, and help them get dressed. I would help individual's use the bathroom with stand by assistants when needed. I would also cook food for the individuals to give them a healthy balanced meal and snacks throughout the day, along with bringing them out into the community to do activities and hobbies that they enjoyed. Another part of my duties was to pass or give these individuals the medications that they take every day per their doctor's orders, as well as bringing them to any doctor's appointments that they needed. As a supervisor, more duties that I had were to make sure all staff working in the group home were doing their jobs correctly and helping those staff in any way I could to help them to succeed in their job roles. I would also train all new hires. Along with this, I would also take care of all the scheduling of the house to make sure all shifts were filled. I would take care of all the individual's finances each month that we were rep payee for along with doing any paperwork that was needed for each individual's annual, semi-annual, 45-day, and check-up meetings with case managers and guardians.
