About Theresa

Hello, I am an experienced care giver companion who genuinely likes helping people. My experience is with the elderly suffering from mid stage Alzheimer's, stroke recovery, vision impairment and limited mobility. I am very kind and compassionate as well as organized and trustworthy. I am intelligent and resourceful and I get along very well with my clients and their families. I like to work directly for clients, bypassing the agency mark up, establishing a semi permanent arrangement with the client/family. I have letters of recommendation from the two different out of town daughters. One of a couple I cared (89,92), who I eventually helped move to assisted living. I live in Largo FL adjacent to Indian Rocks Beach and Bellaire Beach. I have an AHCA level 2 backround check and my BLS. I completed a CNA prep course and I received a HHA through a local agency. I assisted with the recovery of an elderly woman after a serious fall. This widow and mother of three was also experiencing mid to late stages of Alzheimer's and it was determined that she needed to have full time in home care or move to assisted living. I was the primary In-home care giver and companion assisting in med monitoring and all aspects of daily living. I did several overnights a week. At the request of the daughter, I eventually helped my client make the transition to assisted living, accompanying her through the stressful move.I was a support for both the family and their mother reporting regularly to the daughters. I monitored the new staff's care and the medication duties they took over. I found several serious discrepancies in the medication regimen and reported directly to the daughter. I accompanied my client to meals for a month or so while she adapted to the new routine.I was employed for about 6 months and you may contact the daughter on request.

I was a round the clock caregiver for Ms Shaffer for 3 days in a row every other weekend for a year and a half. I relieved her full time caregiver as needed in addition to these hours. Ms Shaffer has Alzheimers Disease which was starting to progress rapidly. I was responsible for her waking up and getting ready in the morning. I supervised her showers and gave her her medication, fixed her hair and helped her pick out her clothes for the day. I made sure she had her morning snack and ensure. Ms Shaffer preferred to eat at home so we dined out twice a day for lunch and dinner. I drove Ms Shaffer to movies, Orchestra Hall, the Guthrie theatre, and many concerts and special events. I treated Ms Shaffer as a respected friend as well as employer. I accompanied her to lunch and dinner at her favorite restaurants. I kept Ms Shaffer actively engaged in conversation and also watched her favorite shows with her. I took Ms Shaffer to appointments as needed or requested. Ms Shaffer did not have family and I was paid by her trust.

Private in home caregiver for an elderly couple age 88 and 92. I worked 3 to 4 (24 hour) shifts a week. My duties were extensive, and included all the basics of physically running a home (grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housework, (assistance with catheter and transfers as needed throughout the night), driving and transfer assistance to doctor’s appointments, church, restaurants, etc.Assisted with management of doctor’s visit questions/notes. Maintained an accurate account of medications prescribed, updating the medications list, as needed ordering prescriptions and dispensing medications to weekly medication sets. I ensured all medications were taken at the correct times. I guided rehabilitation exercises both at home and during the many visits to the Physical therapy center; critical for stroke rehabilitation. I was a thoughtful companion and supported my clients successfully through a very big move to assisted living at a critical and fragile time in their lives. I was commissioned to design a DVD with over 2000 slides, film and historical photos from their life together.
