About Mary

I decided to become a caregiver to give people the independence to be in their home. I took care of my mother a quadriplegic for 2 years and she was so happy to be at home with her family. A proud achievement of mine was when I received my Missouri CNA so that I could continue to help others to realize that dream of being with their families as long as possible. I am a mother of three and I am currently studying nursing and plan to get my BSN from Central Missouri State University. I want to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday because I am in school Monday - Thursday. I can work 12 hours a day those three days.

Mom

I cared for my mother using zero gravity wheel chair, hoyer lifts, and other aids. I fed her bathed her and changed her brief. I took her on outings in her electric chair. She was so happy to be out of the house, it really would be a treat I could see in her smile.

I'm not sure what led me to start my first job at Heartland Residential Care but that was were I found my nact and love as far as a job. U found it so rewarding to be able to help someone whom without me couldn't do it themselves. But in 2010 I got breast cancer. And as I was going thru the process of treatment, I was so sick but I had no one to help care for me. I realized how important just how wonderful it would have been to have a little help. So now I've been cancer free soon it will be six yrs. I have #1 realized how important it is to have someone whom you can depend on and #2 I feel I beat cancer and it's time to make my life count. If I can just help one person out there that needs a helping hand. Whether it is maybe cooking them a meal, cleaning the floors or just be an ear for someone to talk to. I want to be able to come home from my workday feeling that just maybe I've made a difference in someone's life that day. It's a satisfaction that I just can't explain.
