I became a caregiver after suffering with some issues of my own as an adolescent. Once graduating from high school and needing to think about careers that mattered I went right into nursing. It started with home health and has ventured into working in hospital settings and nursing homes as well. What I like about being a caregiver is the fact that you know you are taking care of needs as they arise. You leave your client/patient with a feeling of self worth. Nothing is more rewarding than that! As a caregiver you can watch a client go from feeling down and blue and not healing well to smiling and taking life head on with the right support and beating many odds laid out for them. My most personal achievement would have to be while working in a hospital setting, was caring for a sick infant. She cried so much and her parents were distraught. I came into the room and asked if I could help. They gladly said yes. I worked with this child for quite some time and with patience and perseverance I was able to help her calm down, eat, bathe, and assist in getting her meds down. When the parents came back she was napping. They said they had been at the facility for many days and things were only getting worse. Both parties needed sleep in order to let healing begin. Knowing I was there willing to listen and able to work was a great feat. Your there for your patients and that is how it is supposed to be. As far as myself, I'm caring, compassionate, devoted to what I do. ... more
